Kudzu Overtaking Trees Along North Atlanta Property Lines Is a Growing Problem This Summer

Post Copy

Kudzu grows fast enough to visibly climb a tree in a matter of weeks during the peak of a Georgia summer, and once it reaches the canopy it starts blocking sunlight from the leaves underneath. A tree smothered by kudzu for a full growing season can lose enough energy that it struggles to recover, especially along fence lines and wooded property edges where it often goes unnoticed until it is well established.

The vines also add significant weight to branches, which becomes a real hazard during summer storms when wind and rain load an already-stressed tree even further. What starts as a patch of vines at the base can end up compromising limbs high in the canopy.

Cutting kudzu at the base and clearing it off the trunk and lower branches stops it from climbing further, but established vines along a property line usually need ongoing attention through the growing season to keep them from coming back.

Do you have kudzu or another aggressive vine working its way up any trees along your property line?
