Choosing a home care agency is one of the most consequential decisions a family makes, and it often has to be made quickly, under stress, with limited information. Having a short list of questions that cut to what actually matters can make a significant difference in the outcome.
Here are five we'd recommend asking any agency you're considering: First, are your caregivers employees or independent contractors? The W-2 vs. contractor distinction affects training, accountability, and what the agency can actually guarantee about who shows up. Second, are your caregivers certified nursing assistants, and how is that certification verified? Third, do you have clinical oversight, such as an RN who supervises care plans and evaluates services? Fourth, how do you handle caregiver continuity — what happens when a regular caregiver is unavailable? And fifth, how quickly can you start care, and what does the intake process look like?
At Advantage Private Home Care, the answers are: all caregivers are W-2-employed, state-verified CNAs; an RN supervisor manages care plans and oversees training; we work to maintain consistent caregiver-to-client relationships; and we can typically begin care within 24 hours of a call. We've been answering these questions for families across Metro Atlanta since 2005, and we're happy to talk through any of them before you make a decision.
If your family has gone through the process of choosing a home care agency, what question do you wish you had thought to ask?
