Recognizing Emerald Ash Borer Damage on Denver-Area Ash Trees

Post Copy

Emerald ash borer has been working its way through Colorado's ash tree population for years, and North Metro Denver properties are not immune.

The signs are easy to miss at first. Look for thinning canopy at the top of the tree, S-shaped galleries beneath the bark, D-shaped exit holes the size of a pencil tip, and increased woodpecker activity on the trunk. By the time bark splitting and sprouting appear, the tree has often been declining for several seasons. Early detection is the treatment window; late-stage infestation usually means removal.

Ash trees remain common in established Denver-area neighborhoods. If you have one and have not had it assessed recently, now is a good time. A certified arborist can evaluate whether a systemic insecticide treatment is still viable, or whether removal is the safer, more cost-effective path.

Arbortec has served Broomfield, Thornton, Westminster, Arvada, and surrounding North Metro communities since 1989. Our ISA Certified Arborists can assess your ash trees and walk you through your options.

Image / Media Suggestion

Authentic job photo preferred: close-up of emerald ash borer exit holes or S-shaped galleries on bark, or a before/after of a declining ash vs. a healthy specimen. A crew photo doing an on-site ash tree assessment works well. Real documentation outperforms stock significantly for educational posts.
