Once a tree comes down, the stump is often the last thing property owners think about, until it is sending up new shoots or getting in the way of mowing.
Stump grinding breaks the stump down below the surface using a rotating cutting wheel, leaving the root system in place underground. It is faster and less disruptive to surrounding soil and landscaping, and works well when the space will become lawn or a mulch bed.
Full stump removal pulls the entire root ball out of the ground, which takes more time and leaves a larger hole to fill, but it is sometimes necessary when new construction, a pool, or a foundation is planned for that exact spot.
Most Sarasota County yards only need grinding. Removal is the exception, not the default.
