How to identify a hazard tree on your Bellmore or Massapequa property before it becomes an emergency

Post Copy

Not every problem tree looks dangerous. Some of the most hazardous trees on a Long Island property look fine at a glance, while the real warning signs are lower down, at the base and in the root zone.

Look for mushrooms or fungal growth at the base of the trunk, which often signals internal decay. A trunk that leans more than it used to, especially after a storm, deserves a closer look, as does bark that is peeling away in large sections rather than shedding naturally.

Cracks running along the trunk, large dead branches in the upper canopy, and roots that have visibly heaved or lifted are all signs a tree may be structurally compromised, even if the canopy still looks green.

Catching these signs early gives you options that a true emergency does not. A property in Bellmore, Massapequa, Wantagh, or anywhere across Nassau and Suffolk County is worth a walk-around this season with these signs in mind. #HazardTree #TreeSafety #LongIslandNY #TreeInspection #NassauCounty

Image / Media Suggestion

Authentic photo preferred: a visible hazard sign such as fungal growth at a trunk base or a cracked trunk, or a crew member inspecting a tree on a job site. Real documentation builds more credibility than stock imagery.
