Oak wilt is one of the more serious diseases affecting live oaks across Greater Houston, and it can spread from tree to tree through connected root systems in a neighborhood before anyone realizes what is happening. Early symptoms are subtle: veinal necrosis on leaves, a slight bronze discoloration, and premature leaf drop on just a few branches.
By the time an entire section of canopy is visibly thinning, the disease has often had weeks or months to establish itself. Because live oaks frequently share root grafts with neighboring trees, one infected tree can put an entire street at risk.
Our certified arborists know what early oak wilt looks like and can recommend the right response, which sometimes means treatment and sometimes means removal to protect the surrounding trees.
Have you noticed any branches on your live oaks thinning out or losing leaves earlier than the rest of the canopy?
