Southern Pine Beetle Activity Is a Growing Concern for Pine Stands Across the Houston Area This Summer

Post Copy

Pine trees under heat and drought stress are more vulnerable to Southern pine beetle right now, and this is one of the fastest-moving pests we deal with in this region. A single infested tree can pass beetles to neighboring pines within weeks, which is why a property with several mature pines close together needs a faster response than most tree health issues.

Early signs include yellowing or reddish-brown needles, small resin masses on the bark that look like popcorn, and fine sawdust-like material near the base of the trunk. By the time an entire crown has turned brown, the beetles have often already moved on to the next tree.

Our certified arborists can identify early infestation and recommend removal of affected trees before beetles spread to the rest of a pine stand. Preservation of the surrounding trees sometimes depends on acting on just one.

Do you have mature pines on your property that you have not had checked recently?
