Pine trees under heat and drought stress are especially vulnerable to Southern pine beetle right now, and it is one of the fastest-moving pests seen in this region. A single infested tree can pass beetles to neighboring pines within weeks.
Early signs include yellowing or reddish-brown needles, small resin masses on the bark that look like popcorn, and fine sawdust-like material near the trunk base. By the time an entire crown has turned brown, the beetles have often already moved on to the next tree.
Champions Tree Preservation's certified arborists identify early infestation and recommend removal of affected trees before beetles spread through a pine stand across Houston, Klein, Memorial, Spring, and Tomball properties.
Preservation of surrounding trees sometimes depends on acting on just one.
