How to spot dead wood and hazard limbs on your Brazoria County property

Post Copy

Most tree hazards are visible long before they become emergencies. Knowing what to look for on your own property can help you catch a problem early, when it is far less expensive and disruptive to address.

Dead limbs are often the easiest to identify: look for branches with no leaves during the growing season, brittle or peeling bark, and wood that snaps rather than bends. Larger dead branches that hang over driveways, roofs, patios, or play areas are the highest priority to remove, regardless of tree size.

Cankers, cavities, and large cracks in a trunk or major limb are also warning signs. Fungal growth at the base of a tree, especially shelf-type mushrooms, can indicate advanced internal decay. Trees showing multiple stress signals at once, such as dead wood and fungal growth together, warrant a professional assessment.

Country Trees serves Angleton, Clute, Lake Jackson, West Columbia, and the greater Brazoria County area. Our licensed arborists offer free property estimates and can help you prioritize which trees need attention most.

Image / Media Suggestion

Authentic job photo preferred: a close-up of a dead limb or cavity in a tree trunk, a crew removing a hazard branch, or a post-removal view of a cleared canopy. Real job documentation consistently outperforms stock imagery.
