Metro Atlanta's summer storms roll in fast, and the trees most likely to fail are often the ones that gave warning signs weeks earlier.
Cracked limbs, a noticeable lean that wasn't there last season, or a canopy that thins unevenly on one side can all signal a tree that won't hold up to strong straight-line winds. These issues are easy to miss during a quick glance from the driveway, especially on a tree with a full, healthy-looking canopy.
Decatur, Avondale Estates, and Tucker properties with mature hardwoods are especially worth a closer look this time of year, since older trees carry more weight and more surface area to catch wind. A short walk around your yard after any storm, checking for fresh cracks or shifted soil near the base, is worth the ten minutes it takes.
Has a recent storm left any of your trees looking different than they did a few weeks ago?
