Western red cedar is one of the most common trees in Sherwood and Portland metro yards, and it hides problems well behind its dense, layered foliage.
Browning or thinning foliage on interior branches, rather than just the tips, often signals the tree needs airflow through the canopy that only pruning can provide. Branches that droop low enough to touch structures or block walkways are also a sign it's overdue.
Cedar responds well to selective pruning that opens up the canopy without removing its natural shape, but it doesn't tolerate heavy-handed cuts the way some species do. Over-pruning can stress the tree and invite disease.
An arborist trained on Pacific Northwest species can tell the difference between normal cedar growth and a tree that actually needs attention. Evergreen Tree Service works with property owners throughout Sherwood and the Portland metro.
