How Tree Cabling Protects Mature Trees Against Summer Wind Damage

Post Copy

A well-placed cable can be the difference between a mature tree surviving a strong summer storm and losing a major limb, or the tree itself.

Tree cabling is a preventive measure, not a repair. High-strength steel cable is installed between the main structural limbs, reducing movement during high winds and shifting load away from weak attachment points. Together these systems let a structurally compromised tree stay in place and keep growing safely.

Cabling is particularly effective for trees with co-dominant stems, V-shaped crotches, long horizontal limbs over structures, or any tree that has lost a limb and is still worth preserving. In established Delco and Chester County neighborhoods, where a mature tree can represent decades of growth, cabling is often more cost-effective than full removal and replanting.

An ISA Certified Arborist assesses whether cabling is appropriate based on the tree's species, structure, and location. Free estimates are available across Delaware and Chester County.

Authentic job photo preferred: a close-up of cabling hardware installed in a large tree, or a wide shot showing the full canopy of a cabled specimen. A before/after of a tree that was cabled and retained after a storm assessment is highly effective. Real job photos outperform stock.
