Iron Chlorosis and Yellowing Leaves on Bakersfield's Alkaline Soil

Post Copy

Yellow leaves with the veins still green, known as iron chlorosis, show up often on Kern County properties because much of the valley's soil runs alkaline, making iron harder for roots to absorb.

It's frequently mistaken for a watering problem, but overwatering an already chlorotic tree typically makes the condition worse rather than better.

Left untreated across multiple seasons, chronic chlorosis weakens a tree's overall vigor and increases vulnerability to pests and heat stress.
