Late-Summer Drought Stress Is Showing Up in East End Hardwoods Right Now

Post Copy

Weeks of hot, dry weather take a toll on trees long before the symptoms are obvious, and late summer is when that stress finally shows on the East End.

Watch for early leaf drop or yellowing on oaks and maples, scorched or curled leaf edges, and thinning canopy on trees that looked full just a month ago. Sandy East End soils drain fast, which means established trees can dry out even after a normal rain.

Drought-stressed trees are also more vulnerable to insects and disease that a healthy tree would otherwise resist. Catching the signs now, rather than waiting until fall, gives a tree a much better chance at full recovery.

Mark Daniels Tree Service evaluates drought stress on East Hampton, Amagansett, and Southampton properties and recommends the right next step, whether that is supplemental watering guidance, pruning, or a closer look at root health.

Image / Media Suggestion

Authentic job photo preferred: a close-up of scorched or yellowing leaves on a mature oak or maple, an arborist inspecting canopy health, or a wide shot of an East End property showing tree canopy condition. Real, current photos of stressed trees are more effective than generic stock greenery.
