Rebar 101: Grades, Sizes, and What Actually Reinforces a Concrete Pour

Post Copy

Rebar looks simple, a ribbed steel bar, but the grade and size you choose determine whether a concrete structure holds up the way it is supposed to. Getting it right matters as much as the pour itself.

Rebar sizes are numbered by their diameter in eighths of an inch, and grade refers to the steel's yield strength, with Grade 60 being the most common for general construction. The right combination depends on the load the structure will carry and the span it needs to cover, from a residential slab to a commercial foundation.

Our corporate blog just put together a full guide covering sizing, grades, and reinforcement basics for anyone speccing a concrete project. Link is in the comments.

Have you ever had to double-check a rebar spec on a project because the original call seemed off for the load it needed to carry?
