Japanese Beetle Damage Showing Up on West Michigan Trees and Shrubs Right Now

Post Copy

If your trees or shrubs suddenly look like they've been through a paper shredder, Japanese beetles are likely the culprit, and late July is peak season for them across West Michigan.

These beetles skeletonize leaves, eating everything but the veins, and they tend to target certain species hard, including linden, birch, and crabapple, along with roses and other ornamentals. A single heavy infestation can strip a tree's canopy in a matter of weeks.

Healthy, established trees can usually recover from a season of beetle damage, but repeated years of heavy feeding weaken a tree's overall health and make it more vulnerable to other stress and disease.

Monster Tree Service of Grand Rapids offers plant health care evaluations for Japanese beetle damage and treatment options to protect trees and shrubs across Ada, Forest Hills, and the greater Grand Rapids area.

Image / Media Suggestion

Authentic job photo preferred: a close-up of skeletonized leaves showing beetle damage, an arborist inspecting an affected tree or shrub, or a treated tree showing healthier new growth. Real, current beetle damage photos are more effective than generic foliage stock images.
