Spotted Lanternfly Sightings Increasing Across Western Connecticut This Summer

Post Copy

If you've noticed an unfamiliar gray, spotted moth-like insect on your trees this summer, it may be the spotted lanternfly, and sightings are increasing across Western Connecticut.

This invasive pest feeds on tree sap, especially on maples and other hardwoods common throughout Middlebury, Waterbury, and the Naugatuck Valley, weakening trees over time and leaving behind a sticky residue that promotes mold growth. Large infestations can stress even healthy, established trees.

Early detection matters. Look for the insects themselves, egg masses that look like gray, mud-like smears on bark, or a sudden sticky residue on leaves and the ground beneath a tree.

Mr. Treeman Tree Services monitors for spotted lanternfly activity during every property visit and can evaluate trees showing signs of stress or infestation across the Naugatuck Valley.

Authentic job photo preferred: a close-up of spotted lanternfly egg masses or the insect itself on bark, a technician inspecting a tree trunk, or sticky sap residue on leaves. Since no Google Drive image folder is on file yet, request current photos directly from a recent property visit.
