How to Identify Storm-Weakened Trees on Your Louisville Property

Post Copy

Not every hazard tree looks obviously broken. Some of the most dangerous ones look fine from the ground until wind or heavy rain finds the weak point.

A few signs worth checking after any summer storm: cracks or splits in the trunk, branches hanging at an unusual angle, sudden leaning that wasn't there before, and root plates that appear slightly lifted from the soil. Mushrooms or fungal growth at the base of a tree can also indicate internal decay that's weakened the structure from the inside.

None of these are DIY situations. A tree that looks stable can still fail under the right conditions, and assessing that risk safely requires training most homeowners don't have.

If a recent storm left a tree on your Louisville or Jefferson County property looking different than it did before, it's worth having a certified arborist take a look rather than waiting to see what happens.

Image / Media Suggestion

Authentic job photo preferred: a visibly storm-damaged tree (cracked trunk, leaning, or lifted root plate) or an arborist inspecting a tree after a storm. Real, local storm-damage photos build far more trust than generic tree images.
