Why employee training is one of the most overlooked parts of a small business cybersecurity plan

Firewalls and antivirus software matter, but most security incidents at small businesses start with a person, not a piece of software. An employee clicks a link that looks legitimate, opens an attachment from what appears to be a vendor, or reuses a weak password across several accounts.

Training staff to recognize these moments is one of the highest-value, lowest-cost things a Gwinnett or Greater Atlanta business can do. It does not require everyone to become a security expert. It requires a few practical habits: pausing before clicking, verifying unusual requests by phone, and knowing who to call when something feels off.

We build IT security training into how we work with clients because technology alone cannot close every gap. The people using the systems every day are part of the defense too.

Has your team ever received formal training on what a phishing attempt actually looks like?
