Saturated soil and July storms: why healthy Atlanta trees still tip over

Post Copy

The trunk was healthy. The ground gave out.

By mid-July, Metro Atlanta trees carry a full, heavy canopy. Drop two inches of rain in an hour, add a gust front, and saturated soil loses its grip on the roots. The whole tree levers out of soft ground.

Most at risk: shallow roots, past construction damage, or a heavy lean toward the house. Worth a look before the next storm, not after.
