Trees usually warn you before they fail, and knowing the signs can prevent an emergency during the next Piedmont Triad storm.
Look for a new or worsening lean, especially when the soil is cracking or lifting near the base. Deep trunk cracks, large dead limbs high in the canopy, and mushrooms or fungus at the root flare all point to trouble underneath.
Not every warning sign means removal. Some trees can be saved with pruning or structural support. But a leaning or declining tree near a home, driveway, or power line in Kernersville, Winston-Salem, or Greensboro deserves a professional assessment before the situation gets worse.
A trained eye can tell you whether a tree can be treated or needs to come down.
