Late summer in the Mahoning Valley brings a stretch of heavy humidity, and that humid air is exactly the condition fungal disease needs to take hold on trees already stressed from the season's heat.
Leaf spot, powdery mildew, and root and trunk fungi all become more common this time of year, especially on trees with dense canopies that trap moisture or those growing in poorly draining soil. Symptoms range from discolored leaves to fungal growth visible at the base of the trunk.
Left unaddressed, fungal issues can weaken a tree's structure over multiple seasons, not just its appearance this year. Catching it early, while it is still limited to a few branches or a small section of canopy, gives a tree the best chance at a full recovery.
If you have noticed spotting, discoloration, or fungal growth on a tree this summer, it is worth having one of our arborists take a look.

Authentic job photo preferred: a tree showing visible fungal growth, leaf spot, or discoloration, or an arborist inspecting foliage on a Mahoning Valley property. Real diagnostic photos are strongly preferred over generic stock disease images.
