Live oaks are some of the most iconic and long-lived trees in Pinellas County, but their size and sprawling canopies also mean problems can develop for years before they become visible from a distance.
Watch for thinning in the upper canopy, dead branches that stay attached rather than dropping, and any fungal growth or cavities forming near the base or major limb unions. Live oaks are also prone to included bark, a weak union between branches that can fail without much warning during storms.
Because live oaks are such long-term investments in a property's shade and character, catching an issue early often means the difference between a targeted pruning fix and losing the tree entirely.
If a live oak on your property has changed noticeably over the past year, it's worth having one of our ISA Certified Arborists take a look.

Authentic job photo preferred: a live oak on a Dunedin or Pinellas County property showing healthy canopy structure, or an arborist inspecting a live oak's limb unions or trunk. Real, specific photos are strongly preferred over generic stock oak tree images.
