Oak Wilt Season in San Antonio: The Summer Wound Window That Puts Live Oaks at Risk

Post Copy

If you have live oaks on your property in San Antonio, right now is one of the most dangerous times of year to make cuts or cause wounds to those trees. Oak wilt spreads most aggressively through fresh wounds during the warm months, when the fungal mats that carry the disease are active and the beetles that transmit it are flying.

A pruning cut, a storm break, or even a lawn mower nick on a surface root can become an entry point. Once oak wilt takes hold in a live oak, it moves fast. And because live oaks share root systems with neighboring trees, one infected tree can spread the disease to an entire grove before visible symptoms appear.

Texas Tree Authority's ISA-certified arborists know San Antonio's tree health landscape. If you have a live oak that's showing signs of stress, yellowing leaves, or recent wound exposure, this is the time to get a professional eye on it, not to wait until fall.
