By mid-July, San Antonio trees are working hard just to hold their moisture. Even established live oaks feel the strain when weeks of high heat stack up with little rain.
The most common mistake is watering short and frequent. A quick daily sprinkle wets the surface, then evaporates before it helps the roots. Deep, infrequent watering is what trees actually use.
For young trees, a slow soak at the base once or twice a week reaches the roots. For mature live oaks, watering out near the drip line rather than against the trunk sends moisture to the feeder roots. Early morning is the best time, before the South Texas heat climbs.
A smart watering routine now carries your trees through the hottest stretch of the summer.
